Costume Craft: Vembrace

For this vembrace armor piece I created a form and then patterned my design and cut it out of industrial felt. I stiffened it with sizing which I made from a Soba glue and water mixture. Once it was dry I painted it, sanding it between coats and added trim pieces such as plastic rivets and leather scales which I treated with a pearl leather wash. I created the dragon medallion by stamping the leather while it was wet and then painting into it once it was dry. I finished the piece with buckle closures and a soft cotton lining.
